Foreword From The Chairman

Assalaamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and salam sejahtera.

The world is continuously progressing forward and Brunei needs to match the pace at which other countries advance to flourish as a nation.

In February, we announced that the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector has launched a major transformation initiative to accelerate the nation’s digital agenda. Since the announcement, we have made great leaps forward along the ICT transformation journey, taking us closer towards a more connected and digitally integrated future that is run and operated by Bruneians.

As we evolve towards becoming a Smart Nation, I would like to encourage you to dream boldly of what possibilities this avails to you and Brunei as a nation. Dream small and dream big. Having a state-of-the-art and fully secured integrated network can mean some of the following:

Small Dreams

Being able to have seamless video calls with your loved one who are overseas, without having a break in network connectivity.

Having your smart fridge automatically place an order at the supermarket and have it delivered to you when you are running low on kaya spread or eggs.

Reducing your POWERkad expenses because your lights and electronics automatically switch off when you are not in the room.

Big Dreams

Through enhanced e-commerce capabilities, providing local businesses with wider access to markets beyond Brunei.

Brunei being a high-quality carrier-neutral data centre facility of choice for companies in the region.

Brunei becoming a hub for medical tourism because of our ability to use telemedicine and remote surgery in providing customized healthcare.

No dream, no matter how big or small is too far-fetched. I encourage you to imagine boldly on what infinite possibilities the future might entail with the proper infrastructure in place.

The 4th Industrial Revolution is here, with sweeping changes being brought about by technology. If we do not join the ongoing digital revolution, very soon we are at risk of being left behind. At its core, the ICT transformation seeks to improve the quality of every Bruneian’s daily life and be one of the building blocks of a dynamic and sustainable economy.

I am truly excited to see Brunei on this journey and to see what Bruneians, with your creativity and ingenuity, can do with solid foundations. The future is bright!
