From driverless cars to remote medicine, what is your big or small dream for a product or service in the digital economy?

  • Physical and mental stress is the leading cause of diseases and illnesses. As one of the fruits of the digital economy, I would like to imagine boldly, a solution that can create value for a person’s physical and mental wellbeing. I imagine wellness solutions that leverage big data to analyze health levels and provide tailor-made wellness solutions for Bruneians, eventually translating into a better quality of life for the good of the community.

In your words, why is this transformation important to Brunei?

  • It is critical for us as a nation to keep up with the 4th industrial revolution by having the human capital and infrastructure in place.
  • However, in a small saturated market like Brunei, it is a real challenge to put in place state-of-the-art infrastructure the likes of those found in our bigger neighbours. Hence, economies of scale and efficiencies that can be realized from an industry consolidation should and must be explored and leveraged upon.

From driverless cars to remote medicine, what is your big or small dream for a product or service in the digital economy?

  • The world’s current problems such as hunger, poverty, sustainability and food security can be addressed by leveraging on digital technologies. Big data and artificial intelligence greatly enhance our ability to predict potential crises and assist us to avert them. I believe agriculture is one area that can benefit from this and I would like to see Bruneians harness big data to provide solutions for food sustainability and security.

Employment Opportunities

The transformation of the ICT sector presents immediate and long term job opportunities in sectors such as government, tourism, healthcare, logistics, learning and commerce. Presently, there are roles available at the newly established retail telecommunications organisations (Datastream Digital, Imagine and Progresif) as well as at UNN for existing employees.

Currently, 50+ employees have been recruited and trained as career coaches, and will embark on their new profession within the ICT sector in February 2020.

Bruneianisation is a key aim of this program. Where expatriates are recruited, there will be an exit strategy, with Bruneian nationals being developed and trained to take on these positions within an agreed timeframe.

There will be no forced termination of Bruneians at Datastream Digital, Imagine and Progresif.
